of maps belong to the group produced during the Spanish territories management and
administration action from the time of the arrival Christopher Columbus
in the Antilles until the emancipation of the different provinces,
collection of documents that belong to the General Archive of the Indies.
The speed of
the territory occupation which was almost completed by the mid 16th
century corresponded with the colonising and foundational process that took place as the result of the formation of a wide urban net
of permanent settlements from north to south and east to west on the
continent. The settlement cities in the zone are reflected in this brief
sample that belongs to the last section of the Maps and Drawings of the
Peru and Chile Series.
