ArtCodex Editions

[I]ncipit started activity in July 2003 specialising in the production of facsimile editions of illuminated manuscripts, using the experience of people coming from the world of fine art printing.

The ArtCodex editions are the first work of art to combine a unique hand-writing art with the publishing opportunities offered by modem technology. Each operation carried out when the original artefact was created is faithfully reproduced, even though modern handcraft techniques are used, traditional techniques from the manual production of paper by using a press, to the working and stripping of leather used for the casings ensure a faithful reproduction.

For the first time, the new patented system for the application of gold and silver gives a three-dimensional appearance to the reproduction and all the decorations on the gold are faithfully recreated. The paper is also manually aged in order to recreate the same effect that time has on the illuminations on parchments.

Even though there is a high technology element, it still maintains the manual skills of ancient crafts. It is intended to be a timeless work of art in its own right, with the purpose of spreading knowledge of ancient artefacts, which are the core of historical libraries.

The craftsmen of the new millennium have been able to bring back to life the appeal of the illumination process carded out in ancient workshops.
