[T]his document is to the Principality of Liechtenstein, its most important document. Through the union of Vaduz and Schellenberg the principality was formed and was awarded sovereignty by the Emperor Napoleon. Through this document the autonomous development was made possible resulting in the present day modern state.

The facsimile volume

All 36 pages of the "Birth Charter of the Principality Liechtenstein" have been reproduced in the original format of 24 x 38 cm. The facsimile volume is true to the original down to the smallest detail. The facsimile has been published in a world-wide limited edition strictly limited to 980 numbered copies. The manuscript has been produced on acid free paper, which guarantees a practically unlimited durability. Also, the binding was manufactured to completely match the original: It is made of red velvet and is decorated with a silvery string, on which the gilt replicated seal of Emperor Karl Vl hangs.

The Commentary Volume

The facsimile is accompanied by a 32 page commentary volume with a complete transcription of the text and it also contains historic interpretations the document. The author of this commentary volume is Harald Wanger, Schaan.

The production of this facsimile has been authorised by the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein.
