xecuted in Florence in the second half the 15th century, the jeweled Book of Hours of Lorenzo de Medici has been in the care of the Library Medicea Laurenziana in Florence since 1884. Commissioned by Lorenzo de Medici for his daughter Luisa, promised bride to her cousin Giovanni de' Medici who died at the age of 11 years, the manuscript is richly miniated: the 233 pages of the codex are enriched with decorations, friezes and a splendid crowd miniatures page attributed to Francis Rosselli, engraver, miner, cartographer and painter as well as maximum exponent, together to Antonio del Chierico, of the Florentine school of miniatures. Sumptuous and amazing the binding, in purplish velvet, is embellished by two great lapis lazzuli and eight pink quartzes set in precious studs and cantonal in gilded silver.
