A Modern Edition of an Old Book of Hours

[A] modern edition of the old Book of Hours conserved in Modena Estense University Library. This manuscript is known as Lat. 842= α. r. 73. The most important illuminated pages of the ancient illuminated manuscript have been choosen based on iconographic and allegoric meaning and value and have been reproduced using a patented system. This work of art is structured in three thematic folders that visit all the original manuscript meanings:

  • From Christ life - 6 pages recto & verso
  • From Virgin and Saints life - 6 pages recto & verso
  • From Saints life - 6 pages recto & verso

This facsimile edition edition is totally hand made, using the traditional techniques of leather handwork and paper making. The velvet lining, the gold printing of texts, the books wooden spine, the embossing, make the work of art a real artisan edition, first and unique in its genre. Each illuminated page is reproduced using a patented system reproducing the features of the miniatures in both in the painting colours and in the golds.

The engravings, the "gold on gold", the different kinds of gold used accurately emulate the old techniques of gold deposition on parchment-paper. The ageing process applied to every single illuminated page recreates the atmosphere and the intensity of the original document. The result of all this attention is a facsimile that reproduces the old art of the original.The high quality printing process allows the smallest details of each illuminated page to come through, showing even the original brush strokes used by the artist.
