15th Century

#

[O]ne of the most wonderful hunt-books of the Middle Ages, composed of magnificent miniatures and historically valuable material on the culture of the day. Written by Gaston Phébus, Graf von Foix and Vicomte von Béarn. It is a real guide, that restricts itself not only to the technical details, but an exact description of the hunt animals. The text was written in 1389, the most famous illuminations in the manuscript date from the beginning of the 15th Century.

The animals and scenes to the hunt are represented against backgrounds unique in book illumination (usually with rich gold ornamentation).

40 of the most beautiful miniatures are represented in the present volume reproducing the smallest details from the manuscript, to which access completely is denied.

126 pages: 40 page introduction, 86 pages of illuminations with complete descriptions (with 40 facsimile quality illuminations), sized 25,5 x 33,5 cm, linen cover.
