The Resta collection was unequalled for typology, quality and quantity of subjects of drawings. Sebastiano Resta gathered this extraordinary collection in a volume, that himself called “ The Portable Gallery”: a real travelling museum in which it is possible to follow the characteristic traces of styles and artists of centuries before, but especially of XVII century. The collector of these drawings has noted on every page his personal remarks and added news, information, reflections and anecdotes on some of the artists represented in the volume. The volume was given to Ambrosiana Library of Milan, where the volume is currently conserved. They have permitted the publisher to reproduce the selection of one hundred plates.
