[T] he World Chronicle is the unfinished last work of Rudolf Von Ems (d. 1250), poet to the court and born in VorarIberg, Austria. It deals with the events of Scripture, from the Creation to Sampson clearly referring to political events of the period. The historical Bible text is accompanied with a Christian epic based on the Song of Roland by an itinerant poet referred to as “the Knitter”. It describes the victorious campaign of Charlemagne against the pagan Saracens during which Roland, Charlemagne's nephew, looses his life. The manuscript shows distinctive and lively full-page miniatures on luminous golden grounds.

Facsimile edition of the manuscript MS germ.Fol. 623. 46 pages in the original format of 28 x 19 cm. 23 full-page miniatures reproduced with genuine gold. Dark red leather binding with blind tooling. 60-page commentary volume in German by W. Irtenkauf. Both volumes in one slip case. Limited edition: 950 hand numbered copies world-wide.
