he World Chronicle is the unfinished last work of Rudolf Von Ems (d. 1250), poet to the court and born in VorarIberg, Austria. It deals with the events of Scripture, from the Creation to Sampson clearly referring to political events of the period. The historical Bible text is accompanied with a Christian epic based on the Song of Roland by an itinerant poet referred to as “the Knitter”. It describes the victorious campaign of Charlemagne against the pagan Saracens during which Roland, Charlemagne's nephew, looses his life. The manuscript shows distinctive and lively full-page miniatures on luminous golden grounds.
