he volume contains one of the most well known treatises on medicine of the Middle Ages, written by Mattheus Platearius. The volume contains a decorated border at the beginning of the Index and a decorated initial at the beginning of the Prologue, with borders and initials painted at the beginning of the main text. The volume also contains numerous small blue and vermilion initials highlighted with gold and silver. The original volume became a part of the collection of the Russian Imperial Library in 1805, and today is held in The National Library of Russia.
The volume has 328 pages, sized 260 x 355 mm, containing 118 whole page miniatures and 2 quarter page miniatures. The copy of the 16th century binding is in green morocco leather with gold covers and spine with arabesques. The paper is handmade with the same touch, thickness and smell as the original.
The facsimile volume has been produced in a single, never to be repeated, edition of 987 individually authenticated copies.
